Aren’t these beyond cute? I saw the idea HERE.
I loved this idea and thought they would be so cute hanging in Blayke’s room.
{don’t you think they’d be so cute as Valentines Decor, baby shower, birthday or even a wedding?}
So, I went to the store to get styrofoam balls. Holy Moses! Styrofoam is expensive! For a medium sized ball they’re $13.99, and $18.99 for a large ball.
WHAT?
Since I wanted 1 large, 1 medium and a small one, that wasn’t going to work. That would have been around $40 just for styrofoam. Not going to happen, thank you very much.
I had to get creative. I was desperate. Finally, I had an idea. I wasn’t sure if it was going to work or not and I think the mister thought I was joking when I told him my idea…
But, I grabbed a few old gossip bibles magazines and the duct tape.
I ripped out the pages and crumbled them up…
I held them somewhat together while the mister put tape around them…
Guess what? It worked! Take that Styrofoam.
Okay onto the fun stuff. I bought 2 yards of pink felt and 1 yard of white.
{you can use anything to make your circles, I used the top of my Scentsy
It worked great}
You’re going to need a lot of circles. A lot. {I folded my felt so that I cut 4 at a time}
When you’re ready, take one circle, fold it in half.
Fold it in half again and get ready to pin.
Pin at the bottom of the felt onto the ball.
Keep doing that all over until you are done.
{I hung them up in Blayke’s room and I love them}
Let’s total up:
3 balls: free! {you’d never know those balls aren’t styrofoam}
Pink and White felt: $7.40 {from Joann’s, I used a 50% off on the pink and 40% off the white}
Pins: $2.99 {I bought them on sale for 1.88 but I’ll go off the regular price of 2.99}
Ribbon: {was left over from my baby shower}
Total for all 3 felt roses: $10.49

[...] I wanted my table to appear as if it were a TuTu. I took 10 yards of tulle and scrunched and pinned and scrunched and pinned it to my tablecloth all around the table. Next I added the red sequence ribbon all around the table to hide the pins. Then I added my giant handcrafted fabric flowers. I made Felt Rose Pom Poms by following this tutorial found on Spending LESS Living More [...]

Kelley,
These felt balls are so adorable!!! I’ve got another cute idea I’ll share.
For my daughter’s 9th “glamour birthday party” we made tissue flowers for decorations that I hung from the ceiling. They turned out so cute!! Then when cleaning up, I gathered all the flowers together and made a huge one from all the multi-colored tissue and it hangs from their light fixture. It is so cute!!! Up-cycling is the way to go!
Thanks for the mag./tape idea. I’m all over that!!
Awesome idea. Will have to try. thanks
this is sooo cool. my grandbabes would love these. you go. grat way to upcycle too!
I really love these, so nice and fluffy looking! What a perfect place to hang them:)

How did you attach the ribbon?? These are darling…can’t wait to give it a try!
I used hot glue and about 5 pins to hold the ribbon in place.
YAY! I love these so much!! ANd I totally love that you were resourceful. I always am amazed at how expensive those things are!! Now, do the pins feel solid in the paper balls? And so cheap!! <3 I'm your new biggest fan!
Thank you!! Yes, the pins worked great because they are going through the duct tape first. So, that holds them in really well
Hi There you have been FEATURED AT CraftOManiac. Thanks & winks-jen

What a great idea in place of styrofoam! I just finished a project where I glued together some leftover florist foam, just because the foam balls were more than most of the supplies! So I appreciate this so I can go forward on several V-day projects, so Brava!
I lvoe this! My friend bought those foam balls and spent a ton! Thanks for sharing this. I am having a little girl and I can’t wait to make some stuff like this.

I LOVE these. I went to make these for my daughters room, but when I saw how much the Styrofoam balls were I wanted to cry. Thank you so much for coming up with a cheaper but just as cute version.
This is genius! I can’t get myself to buy styrofoam balls, i’ve got plenty of magazines and junk mail that I need to get rid off!
You are awesome!! If this next babe is a girl you have to help me make some! I have plenty of old People and Self mags lying around. What a smart idea!
These are so cute! I was just thinking this morning what I could do to the corner in both of my daughters rooms. I’m thinking these would do the trick.
When I post about them I will definitely link back to you.
Thanks for the great idea!
Very cute.
Love how you used paper balls! My son makes them all the time – he can bat them in the house and they don’t break anything – I had wondered if they’d work as a styrofoam substitute, but haven’t tried it yet… Thanks for letting us know it works! They’re beautiful!
1) I love your love for gossip magazines.. always have
2) LOVE those balls, they are SO SO SO cute!
These are really beautiful! I love how you used something you already had instead of the styrofoam. Im going to make these for my daughters birthday next weekend…Thanks so much for sharing such a great idea!
